Course: "Communication Law & Ethics" (PRAD 575) taught by Professor Maria De Moya, Ph.D., is required course in the PR & Advertising program at DePaul University. This course covers the ethical and legal responsibilities that advertising and public relations professionals encounter in their practice. Students will review legal topics including the First Amendment, libel, privacy and copyright. Additionally, they will analyze and apply the code of ethics that inform public relations and advertising in the U.S. They will learn the ethical values and principles that guide the practice, while discussing issues such as responsible advocacy, public communication campaigns and corporate social responsibility.
One of our assignments for this course was to imagine you were the Corporate Communication Officer for a new big startup in the Silicon Valley and the CEO is committed to make the company the best in the industry and one of her top issues is making sure to recruit diverse hires. Students had to develop a brief showing their analysis of this situation.
